Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, is a great city to visit, particularly if you’re coming from Amsterdam (it’s only a 40 minute train ride away). If you’ve only got one day in Rotterdam, here are the best things to see in Rotterdam.

If you’re catching the train to Rotterdam, you’ll arrive at Centraal Station. It’s Rotterdam’s main train station and is situated in an ultra modern building that’s worth taking a look at as you’re leaving. It’s the main railway station in the city, and is housed in an ultra modern building that’s working turning around to look at as you’re walking out.
De Markthal
De Markthal is the place to go if you’re wanting to grab a bite to eat. This market hall is housed in a modern horseshoe shape building that has some impressive artwork covering the ceiling. Here you’ll find so many great eateries to choose from, with everything from traditional Dutch food to sushi, bubble tea and desserts. There’s something for every food lover here!
Cube Houses
The Cube Houses are a very short walk from De Markthal and are such an interesting piece of architecture. Designed by Dutch architect Piet Blom, these bright yellow houses are famous for their unique geometric shape. They were designed with a forest in mind, and the cube houses resemble the top of a tree. If you want to know what it’s like to live in one of these houses, you can visit one of them.
Erasmusbrug
Walk over the Erasmusbrug bridge as you head to Fenix Food Factory (more on this below). Linking the northern and southern parts of Rotterdam, this 800-metre long suspension bridge is nicknamed ‘The Swan’ due to its shape.
Fenix Food Factory
If you’ve worked up an appetite, The Fenix Food Factory is another must-try food spot. It’s an indoor market situated in a former quayside warehouse in Katendrecht. Grab a some freshly baked goods and artisan bread from Jordy’s Bakery, and a great coffee from Stielman Koffiebranders.
Foodhallen
If you didn’t get your food fix at Fenix Food Factory, Foodhallen is close by (it’s on the way back to Centraal) and is worth a visit.
Delfshaven
Most of Rotterdam was destroyed in World War II, but Delfshaven remained to survive the 1940 bombing. Take a walk around to get an idea of what Rotterdam looked like before the war.
