YSL Kate Bag Review

The Saint Laurent Kate bag is a tried-and-true classic handbag from the brand. It’s an elegant shape and style that’s so easy to wear, and it’s easy to see why it’s still one of Saint Laurent’s best selling bags.

The bag features the classic interlocked YSL initials on the front, and a magnetic snap closure. The inside is a singular compartment with a small pocket at the back, which can be used for storing cards or some cash. It comes with a chain strap that’s not adjustable and can’t be removed, but if you wanted to carry it as a clutch you could tuck the chain inside the bag.

The Saint Laurent Kate bag is available in a range of materials and hardware options, which I talk more about below, but I have mine in Saint Laurent’s classic grained embossed leather. The YSL Kate bag is also available with or without the tassel. If you do get the style with the tassel, it’s not removable.

YSL Kate bag sizes

The Saint Laurent Kate bag currently comes in 2 sizes. I own the Saint Laurent Kate medium bag size, which is a nice size for evenings out or days where you only need to carry the essentials. I have a video of exactly what fits inside the YSL Kate bag over on my Instagram. It only fits just more than the YSL WOC (I compare what fits inside the YSL Medium Kate vs YSL WOC here), so the smaller size wouldn’t fit a lot. I’d recommend the medium size as it’s a much more practical size, and is still a great size for evenings or more formal occasions.

Is the YSL Kate bag worth the money?

And now for the question you’ve probably been wondering, is the YSL Kate bag worth it? The YSL Kate shoulder bag is such a staple piece in my collection and one of the best designer bags to invest in. It’s also a great starter designer bag, and one I always recommend to people who are buying their first designer bag, as it’s a lower price point than some other brands and styles, but is still a classic and very wearable bag.

Whilst the YSL Kate handbag comes in a range of different leathers and materials, the grained embossed leather is my personal preference and the one I would recommend buying. It’s so durable and easy to clean, and consequently, it’s a bag that wears well over time. I’ve had mine for over 5 years and it still looks almost brand new! The style and size means it can be used for both day and night, so it’s a very versatile bag that goes with almost anything. It also makes a great designer crossbody bag to invest in. Overall, the Saint Laurent Kate shoulder bag is a great versatile bag to have in your collection that has definitely been worth the price for me.

YSL Kate bag Leathers and Materials

The YSL Kate bag comes in a range of different leathers and materials including Saint Laurent’s classic embossed calfskin leather, tweed, suede and exotic leathers. I talk about why I love the embossed leather above, but I’d definitely recommend going with embossed leather finish if you want a durable bag that’s easy to keep clean.

In terms of hardware options, the Saint Laurent Kate bags are most commonly available with silver, gold, or black metal hardware. I’ve heard that the black metal hardware doesn’t wear as well as the silver or gold hardware options, so that’s definitely something to keep in mind. I bought my Saint Laurent Kate bag with the gold hardware, but I also have the YSL WOC with the silver hardware, and both have worn well over time.

You also have the option of buying this YSL bag with or without the tassel. Personally I like mine without the tassel, but it really comes down to personal preference and what you like the look of.
