You probably know Dyson best for their home products, like their vacuums and fans, but a few years ago they entered the hair care space with a bang.
In 2016 they first launched their hair dryer, the Supersonic, and then went on to launch their Airwrap wet-to-dry styling kit a few years later. Their newest hair tool is the Dyson Corrale, a Dyson hair straightener that’s been seven years in the making!
Hopefully this Dyson Corrale review will give you a bit more information on the new Dyson straightener and help you decide if it’s something you want to add to your shopping cart or wishlist!
What Makes the Dyson Hair Straightener Different?
This was probably the most commonly asked question for this Dyson hair straightener review! Unlike Dyson’s previous hair tools, the Dyson Corrale straightener is the first Dyson hair tool that doesn’t use air. Instead, it’s fitted with intelligent, flexible manganese copper alloy plates, a technology that really makes it stand out from its competitors. It’s probably not at all surprising to you that heat styling can cause a lot of damage to your hair. Dyson claims the Corrale styles hair with up to 50 percent less heat damage than that caused by traditional hair straighteners, which is a big claim! Over time, this would make a huge difference to your hair health.
It does this through its manganese copper alloy flexible plates, which adapt to the hair’s thickness to gather it together and preventing the hair from splaying as you’re straightening it. This allows the plates to apply only the necessary amount of tension and heat all the way along the hair’s lengths – meaning less heat is required. Each plate is precision machined to 65 microns – the width of a human hair – and tourmaline edged to produce ionising properties that help reduce static.
Another big innovation in the Corrale is the battery, which allows it to deliver the same heat performance as when it’s plugged in. Having a hair straightener that’s cordless is definitely nice (no more cords getting tangled at your vanity)! The battery will provide sufficient power for 30 minutes of cord-free styling, which for me is more than enough. If you need to style your hair for longer, you can use it with the power cord attached (it’s a magnetic cord that swivels 360 degrees). It then takes 70 minutes to fully recharge, so be sure to put it back on the charging dock once you’ve finished using it. The OLED screen on the Corrale displays the battery level so you always know how much charge you have left, along with the temperature control and charging status during use.
For those times when you’re travelling, the Dyson hair straightener comes with a flight mode feature. Simply detach the small square that has an aeroplane sign on it, and the battery is safe to be packed into your cabin luggage. There’s also a lock to keep the straightener closed when you’re not using it, which is useful when you’re packing it away. They really do think of everything!
There are three heat setting options to choose from depending on your hair type and length – 165°C, 185°C and 210°C. The integrated sensor system regulates the temperature of the plates 100 times a second, so you never exceed your set temperature, reducing hair damage that’s caused by heat. When the Corrale is has reached the correct temperature and is ready to use, you will hear a chime. When you turn your straightener on, it will be set to the temperature you last used which is handy. It will also automatically turn off after five minutes if it’s left unattended with the power on.
In the box, you’ll find a charging dock (which looks super nice on your vanity!) and a heat-resistant travel pouch.
How much is the Dyson Corrale?
What’s the cost of all of this innovation? Like any Dyson product, the Corrale is pricer than your average hair straightener, and is priced at $699. It’s expensive! But, if there was a brand I was going to drop that much cash on, it would probably be Dyson – their products and claims are backed by so much research.
Is the Dyson Corrale worth it?
At the price point, it’s definitely an investment! If you can, definitely visit a Dyson store or a department store that stocks Dyson hair tools and try it for yourself so you can get a feel for using it. You’ll notice its heavier than your average straightener, but I find I don’t need to go over the same section of hair more than once, like I do with other straighteners, which cuts down my styling time (and results in less heat damage!). It’s very smooth to use and never pulls on my hair like other straighteners sometimes do. I also use it to curl my hair when I don’t want to reach for my curler, and it does an amazing job. So if you don’t already own a hair curler, you could view this product as a two-in-one as it works really well creating curls.
Hopefully this Dyson straightener review gave you some helpful information so you can make an educated purchasing decision. Personally, Dyson hair tools have never let me down. Yes, it’s expensive, and yes, it’s an investment. It’s a purchase you’ll want to think about before you buy. The innovation behind the Corrale and the promise of heather hair are definitely a big selling point, and, if it’s within your budget, I’d consider it a worthy investment if you’re someone who regularly styles your hair.
