The Best Place to Stay in Lake Como

Hotel Belvedere Bellagio Lake Como

Lake Como is one of the most beautiful places in Italy and it’s a place that should definitely be on your travel bucket list, if it’s not already. It’s an inverted ‘Y’shaped lake, full of historic villas and romantic villages. There’s  a number of towns around Lake Como, so it can be a bit overwhelming when choosing where to stay in Lake Como if you’re going there for the first time.

Bellagio is known to be the most popular town in Lake Como, and for a good reason. It’s a beautiful, romantic village with the most amazing views of the lake.  Bellagio is situated at the centre of Lake Como, at the tip of the Punto Spartivento, and has unbeatable views of the lake and an Old World charm. If you’re based in Bellagio, it’s very easy to hop on a ferry and explore the other traditional towns. There’s also a good number of restaurants and shops, mostly family run, located either on the lakefront or in tiny, charming alleyways.

When I visited Lake Como recently, I stayed at the beautiful Hotel Belvedere, a rare hillside retreat that boasts panoramic views of the lake, with a backdrop of the snow-capped Alps. Whilst close to the centre of Bellagio, it’s very peaceful and quiet – your own private garden paradise.

Hotel Belvedere has everything and more you could want for a relaxing getaway –  a pool and Jacuzzi, private gardens, amazing buffet breakfast, and even a library, where you can get served tea and delicate home-made pastries whilst you get lost in a book in between looking at the view outside the full-length windows. So dreamy!

The rooms at Hotel Belvedere are just as stunning as the hotel grounds, with Italy’s flair for design and luxury living being showcased in every room. Sitting on my balcony each morning (after a wonderful buffet breakfast!) looking at a view that could be straight from a postcard was pure bliss. You can also stay in an apartment if you’re staying for a longer period of time or seeking some extra privacy.

From the hotel, take a short walk down centuries-old stairways and emerge to the glittering waterfront, taking a look at some of the shops and cafes along the way. The picturesque Pescallo bay is also moments away, accessed by a series of steep stone steps. Here you’ll find scenic squares, an attractive marina and ivy strewn buildings.

In the afternoons, walk through Hotel Belvedere’s private gardens and take a dip in the heated outdoor swimming pool whilst taking in the unbeatable views of the lake. End your evening with a soak in the Jacuzzi against the backdrop of the hotel’s flower-festooned balconies.

Staying in Hotel Belvedere in Bellagio was a dream, and I can’t wait to visit again someday!
