It’s a common oily skin mistake to not use a moisturiser after cleansing. The truth is, this makes the skin produce even more oils as that moisture isn’t being replenished after you wash your face (read about some of the Best Cleansers for Oily skin here). The key to keeping those oils at bay lies in finding the best type of moisturiser for your skin, because oily skin types definitely need hydration too! Look for something lightweight that won’t clog pores. We’ve rounded up some of the best moisturisers for oily skin below. Your skin will thank us later!
If you haven’t already, check out our post on the Best Face Masks for Oily Skin – trust me, they’re worth a try!
Tatcha The Water Cream (AU Link): If you haven’t got some Tatcha in your skincare routine yet, you’re missing out (read about my other Tatcha favourites here and here)! This oil-free water cream delivers weightless, refreshing hydration to skin whilst keeping excess oil at bay. Japanese wild rose works to visibly tighten pores and refine uneven texture, whilst Japanese leopard lily combats excess oil and promotes a clear, blemish-free complexion by encouraging cell turnover.
Dermalogica Oil Free Matte Spf30: Whilst non-greasy sunscreens can be hard to find, this oil-free, broad Spectrum sunscreen is lightweight and helps to prevent shine. The ultra-sheer formula helps regulate oil production whilst defending against skin-aging UV light.
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream (AU Link): Formulated with Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract and Antarcticine to help skin retain moisture, this non-greasy hydrator intensely moisturises and conditions skin.
Dr. JART+ Water Fuse Ultimate Hydro Gel (AU Link): Dr. Jart+ is another one of those brands you need in your skincare routine (try this face mask if you have oily skin). This gel-cream instantly cools and refreshes the skin while providing a boost of hydration. The formula contains a blend of AquaMinerals that help direct the water flow, helping to maintain balanced moisture levels while improving water absorption to boost visible firmness and elasticity.
Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Bouncy Hydrating Gel (AU Link): This lightweight, oil-free moisturizer is formulated with cucumber extract to help detoxify the skin while Hyaluronic Acid provides powerful hydration by attracting up to 1,000 times its weight in water from moisture in the air. Vitamins A, C and E provide potent anti-oxidant benefits.
Algenist Regenerative Anti-Aging Lotion: This oil-free lotion is extremely lightweight and delivers all the benefits of an anti-aging moisturiser without the heaviness of a more traditional moisturiser. Alguronic Acid combines with vitamin C and E and watermelon extract to minimise fine lines and wrinkles while boosting radiance.
Arcona Magic White Ice (AU Link): This hydrating gel moisturises the skin without clogging pores, helps protect against environmental damage and leaves skin looking fresh and dewy. Formulated with cranberry extracts to neutralize free radicals, Totara extract to help kill bacteria on skin, and hyaluronic acid to hydrate.
Medik8 Beta Moisturise: This skin balancing mattifying moisturiser combines prebiotics and probiotics to effectively and gently prevent blemishes. It’s formulated with Niacinamide, a soothing cell-communicating agent that defends and boosts the skin’s natural barrier, Beta Glucan to give anti-ageing and protection benefits, and cinnamon extract to balance the skin and encourage the regeneration of cells.

Great skin care list Natalie!
I love Dermalogica for their skin care too. Their overnight clearing gel I find always gives me the best results every time I have a break out day.
