Chanel bags are often considered the best designer bags to invest in, and for a good reason. Over time, there are certain Chanel bags that will be forever classics, and also have appreciated greatly in value, making them some of the best investment bags.
Chanel bags are renowned for their timeless design, impeccable craftsmanship, and iconic status in the fashion world. Each bag is meticulously crafted from the finest materials, including lambskin, caviar leather, and tweed, ensuring durability and longevity. With their classic silhouettes, such as the Flap Bag and the Boy Bag, Chanel bags transcend trends, making them a timeless investment that retains its value over time. Moreover, the exclusivity of Chanel and the limited availability of certain styles contribute to their desirability and potential for appreciation in value.
Chanel regularly increases its prices on key items, so Chanel bags are quite literally investment pieces. If you take reasonable care of your Chanel handbags, they should hold their value well for years to come, meaning that you’d be able to resell them for a good price (or keep it in your collection!). Chanel Classic Flap
Like so many Chanel bags, the Chanel Classic Flap has appreciated in value over the years, making it one of Chanel’s best bags to invest in. The Chanel Classic Flap bag has been around for almost 40 years, and was created by Karl Lagerfeld upon his arrival in 1983.
Designed to reinterpret the iconic 2.55 handbag, the Chanel Flap bag is best known for its iconic double flap, with a double C overstitched onto the fold, and its signature diamond quilting stitching. The Chanel classic bag also features the brands iconic chain interlaced with leather, and the seal of Chanel, the CC clasp. It’s such a classic piece that you’ll want have in your collection forever, and is the best Chanel bag to invest in! It only gets more popular (and more expensive!) every year, so it should maintain its value well over time.

Chanel Wallet on Chain (Chanel WOC)
The Chanel Wallet on Chain bag is one of the most popular pieces from Chanel, and is a classic and timeless Chanel piece. They come in a range of different leathers and materials including Lambskin, Caviar Leather and Patent Leather, and are most commonly available with silver or gold hardware.
Which Chanel bag should you buy first? Because of its lower price point compared to other Chanel bags, it’s a great entry piece if you’re looking for your first Chanel bag.

Chanel Boy Bag
The Chanel Boy bag was first introduced in 2011 in Chanel’s Fall/Winter collection, and is now considered one of the best Chanel investment bags. The Chanel boy bag is best known for its lego brick lock, chunky chain strap and boxy silhouette. It can be worn either as a shoulder bag or as a crossbody bag.
The Boy Bag has a single flap that folds over the entire front of the bag, making it a bit more spacious and also lighter than the Chanel Classic Flap. It has a fabric lining and the centre of the bag is usually decorated with either the classic Chanel Diamond Quilting or Chevron Quilting. Upon its release, Karl Lagerfeld said, “Chanel used men’s underwear to make dresses; she had this boyish attitude, in fact, it is the very spirit of Chanel. She got it from Boy Capel, the great love of her life, which, incidentally, explains why the new bag is called the Boy Chanel.”
If you love the edgier look of this bag, the Chanel Boy Bag is a classic Chanel piece that’s worth the investment. Read the full Chanel Boy bag review here (which includes details on all the sizes and prices).

Chanel 19 Bag
The Chanel 19 bag was created in March 2019, as part of Karl Lagerfeld’s final collection, and it has since become a firm favourite amongst Chanel lovers. It has a classic Chanel flap bag design, but its mixed silver/gold/ruthenium hardware and bold CC logo gives it a modern twist. The Chanel 19 bag is a bit newer to my collection, but it’s already a firm favourite and one of the best Chanel bags to buy.
The name ‘CHANEL 19 for 2019’ pays tribute to its elder, the 2.55 bag, created in February 1955 by Mademoiselle Chanel. It features a chain interlaced with leather that comes in a trio of finishes, from silver to aged gold to ruthenium. It has a metal top handle, which I love, and a soft structure. It has a compartment on the back which, fits a phone, and one inside zip compartment. It’s also pretty lightweight so it doesn’t feel overly heavy, even if I’m carrying a lot of things.
This Chanel 19 bag is one of my most worn bags, both due to the size and style. It goes with almost anything, from jeans and dresses to more casual clothes if you’re running errands. I love that it has both a top handle and a longer strap that makes it work as both a shoulder bag or a cross body bag. It has an outside compartment at the back of the bag which is the perfect fit for my phone. The outside compartment has a magnetic closure, so it’s easy to take my phone in and out of the bag without having to open the flap at the front. I prefer the Chanel 19 bag over my Classic Flap Bag (which I reviewed here) for this reason, it’s much easier to use. It’s also a much lower price, so it’s a great option if you don’t want to spend as much on the Classic Flap bag.

Chanel Trendy CC Bag
The Chanel Trendy CC bag has fast become one of the most popular Chanel bags, and is one of the best Chanel investment bags. Known best for its signature “Chanel” engraved gold metal plate that sits under the handle, it’s easy to see why this bag is so coveted.
The Chanel Trendy CC bag was first launched in Chanel’s Spring’14 collection. Functional and stylish, the bag’s accordion shape creates multiple compartments to keep things organised. It also has both a top handle and shoulder strap. .
If you love the look of the Chanel Classic Flap Bag, but aren’t quite ready to make the investment (especially with the recent Chanel price increases!), the Chanel Trendy CC bag has a similar look but at a much cheaper price point. It’s currently around $5,000 cheaper than the medium Classic Flap. I almost prefer the Chanel Trendy to the Chanel Classic Flap. It fit’s so much more and I love that it has both a top handle and a longer strap. The 3 compartments inside also help keep things organised.

Does Chanel Ever Go On Sale?
Chanel bags do very occasionally go on sale, and when they do, the stock is very limited. However, it’s very unlikely you’ll find a Boy Bag or other classic Chanel styles on sale.
Chanel Caviar Leather vs Lambskin
Is Lambskin or Caviar leather is better for Chanel bags? It really comes down to personal preference. The caviar leather is definitely more durable and can tend to wear better over time. Lambskin is known for being a bit more delicate than caviar, but has such a luxurious look and feel.
