An absolute must if you’re visiting Nice, Castle Hill boasts panoramic views and also offers an artificial waterfall and numerous walking trails that pass by the old ruins of the castle and cathedral (which were demolished in 1706 at the request of French King Louis XIV). And of course, ample photo ops!

Dividing the seaside part of Nice into the eastern part with the port, and the western part with Old Town, the Parc de la Colline du Château (Castle Hill) sits atop a 92m high hill where you’ll find some beautiful panoramic views that make it well worth the walk up there! Full of sea views and beautiful old hotels, the Promenade des Anglais is a 7km paved promenade that runs along the beautiful Mediterranean seafront. Since it was built in the 1820s, the Promenade des Anglais has been an integral part of Nice city. Perfect for a daytime or evening walk, there are ample photo opportunities as you walk (including the iconic Le Negresco hotel), along with many bars and restaurants to stop at on the way. If you get tired, sit on one of the many deckchairs and soak up the views whilst people watching. There are so many photo opportunities along the way which makes it one of our favourite instagram spots in Nice.

The Old Port

Walk down from the Castle Hill to le Port De Nice, the Old Port. It’s a nice relaxing spot full of all kinds of boats, from fishing boats to super yachts with helipads on them. Nice France Old Town Travel Blog

Old Town

Also known as Le Vieux Nice, the Old Town of Nice is full of narrow alleys and cobbled streets to explore. There’s also a flower and fresh produce market on the main street, the Cours Saleya Market, which is set up every day except Monday when a flea market takes its place.

The market is definitely worth a visit – we went there every day we were in Nice to grab some fresh produce and delicious food, like baked goods and the socca that’s made on site. The beautiful flowers are also sourced from the Provence and Alpes-Maritimes countryside. Get there early to avoid the crowds!

Monte Carlo, Monaco

Monaco is a quick and easy train ride away from Nice, and definitely worth visiting on a day trip if you’ve got the time. Be sure to check out Larvotto Beach, the Japanese garden and the casino (it’s probably the most well known casino in the world).

The Old Town in Monaco is located on a hill and subsequently offers picturesque views of the Mediterranean. It’s also where the Grimaldi family’s palace is located. Monaco’s Old Town is most easily accessed by walking up the Rampe de la Major, which starts next to the roundabout adjacent to the Place d’Armes. It’s a bit of a steep path but worth it for the views!

Once at the top at the Prince’s Palace, soak in the best views in Monaco and take a walk through the streets of Old Town and follow the alleyways down to Fort Antoine. You can also get the best views of Fontvieille yacht harbour from Monaco’s Old Town.
