Chanel Classic Flap Bag Review

If you’re a handbag lover, chances are you’re familiar with the Chanel Classic Flap bag. It’s been around for almost 40 years, and only seems to get increasingly popular ever year. Chanel’s most-wanted bag was created by Karl Lagerfeld upon his arrival in 1983, and was designed to reinterpret the iconic 2.55 handbag.

The Chanel Flap bag is best known for its iconic double flap, with a double C overstitched onto the fold, and its signature diamond quilting stitching. This Chanel classic bag also features the brands iconic chain interlaced with leather, and the seal of Chanel, the CC clasp.

The Chanel Classic Flap bag currently comes in 6 sizes and multiple fabrications (more on this later). I own the Chanel Classic Flap medium size, which is a nice size for everyday (although it doesn’t fit as much as the Chanel 19 bag I reviewed here). Is the Chanel Classic Flap bag worth the money?

And now for the question so many of you have been asking, is the Chanel Classic Flap bag worth it? If you’re a handbag lover and you can part with the cash, I would definitely say yes. It’s such a classic piece that you’ll have in your collection forever! It really is a tried-and-true classic that gets more popular (and more expensive!) every year, so it should maintain its value over time.

The Chanel Classic Flap bag is one of the best designer bags to invest in. Chanel regularly increases its prices, so Chanel bags are quite literally investment pieces. If you take reasonable care of it, it should hold its value well for years, meaning that you’d be able to resell it for a good price (or keep it in your collection!). Chanel Classic Flap bag Leathers and Materials

The Chanel Classic Flap bag comes in a range of different leathers and materials including Lambskin, Caviar Leather, Patent Leather, Jersey, Velvet, Alligator and Tweed.

In terms of hardware options, the Chanel flap bags are most commonly available with silver, gold, or light gold (champagne) hardware. Pre-2008 Chanel bags were plated with 24-carat gold, but that’s no longer the case with their newer bags.

Chanel Caviar Leather vs Lambskin

I often get asked if Caviar Or Lambskin leather is better for Chanel bags, and it really comes down to personal preference. Many people prefer the caviar leather because it’s more durable and can tend to wear better over time. Lambskin is known for being a bit more delicate than caviar. However, I really loved the look and feel of the Lambskin on the Classic Flap bags, so I went with the Lambskin. I do have the Caviar Leather in some of my other Chanel pieces, which I have been really happy with.
