Chanel Boy Bag Review - Is It Worth The Investment?

If you’re a lover of all things luxury, you’re probably already familiar with the Chanel Boy bag. It was first introduced in 2011 in Chanel’s Fall/Winter collection, and quickly became one of Chanel’s most iconic bags. This Chanel Boy bag review has been highly requested, so I hope it’s helpful!

The Chanel boy bag is best known for its lego brick lock, chunky chain strap and boxy silhouette. It can be worn either as a shoulder bag or as a crossbody bag. It comes in various sizes and fabrication, which I go into later in this Chanel Boy review. Is the Chanel Boy worth the investment? Here’s everything you need to know about the Chanel Boy Bag.

The Boy Bag has a single flap that folds over the entire front of the bag, making it a bit more spacious and also lighter than the Chanel Classic Flap. It has a fabric lining and the centre of the bag is usually decorated with either the classic Chanel Diamond Quilting or Chevron Quilting. It has also been available in ‘reverso’ quilting, where the bag has an unquilted body and a quilted frame.

Upon its release, Karl Lagerfeld said, “Chanel used men’s underwear to make dresses; she had this boyish attitude, in fact, it is the very spirit of Chanel. She got it from Boy Capel, the great love of her life, which, incidentally, explains why the new bag is called the Boy Chanel.”

I bought my Boy Chanel bag preloved. When buying any bag preloved, but especially when they’re as pricey as Chanel, I always like to go into a Chanel boutique first to try the bag on. The Chanel Le Boy bag currently comes in 5 sizes and multiple fabrications (more on this later). I own the Chanel Boy medium size. It’s a nice size for everyday but actually doesn’t fit too much (definitely not as much as the Chanel 19 bag I reviewed here).

Is the Chanel Boy bag worth the money?

And now for the question so many of you have been asking, is the Chanel Boy bag worth it? If you’re a Chanel lover and you can part with the cash, I would say yes. Chanel bags tend to be a good investment, as their value usually only goes up over time, particularly for a style like the Boy bag. It’s a timeless bag that you could have in your collection forever, making it a great designer bag to invest in. If you take good care of it, it should hold its value well for years, meaning that you’d be able to resell it for a good price (or keep it in your collection!). Chanel Boy bag Leathers and Materials

The most common leathers for the Chanel Boy Bag are calfskin and lambskin. However, Chanel has released the Boy bag in a range of different leathers and materials over the years including velvet, patent, goatskin, denim and tweed.

In terms of hardware options, the Chanel Boy handbags are most commonly available with ruthenium or antique gold hardware.

Chanel Caviar Leather vs Lambskin

Is Lambskin or Caviar leather better for Chanel bags? Lambskin is known for being more delicate than caviar, and many people prefer the caviar leather because it’s more durable and can tend to wear better over time. However, it really comes down to personal preference and what you prefer the look and feel of. Personally, I love the look of the Caviar leather for the Boy Chanel bags as it really suits the edgy style of the bag.
