The power of a good skincare routine with the right products is not to be underestimated, and will get you well on your way to achieving the flawless skin you’ve been looking for. No matter what your skin type or age, below are some skin rituals to follow that will ensure your skin looks it best, always! Keep reading for the 5 essentials steps to perfect skin.
Cleanse
Perhaps the most important step in any skincare regimen, cleansing removes dirt and other impurities from the skin, leaving a clean base for the rest of your skincare. If you have a full face of makeup to take off, start with a cleansing oil or balm. A cleansing oil will dissolve any makeup in an instant, making your makeup removal quicker and easier (try the Clinique Cleansing Balm or Shu Uemura Oil Cleanser). Follow on with your cleanser of choice. Oily skin types should look for a clay based cleanser (I love this Dr Jart one) or foaming cleanser (this one is amazing), whilst dry skin types should be using a cream cleanser (like this Guinot cleanser).
Tone
Toning helps to re-balance the skin’s pH after cleansing, close pores and remove any last traces of dirt and cleanser from the skin. A toning mist is quick to apply and can be used throughout the day to refresh and rehydrate the skin. Drier skin types should look for a more hydrating mist (like this Tatcha one) and oilier skin types should look for lighter forumlas (this Kiehl’s toner is amazing for oily skin types).
Essense
A step that is sometimes overlooked, an essence can make the biggest difference to a complexion. An essence will work to hydrate the skin whilst being as light as water, so it’s perfect for oily skin types (yes, you still need hydration!) or to add an extra layer of hydration to drier skin types. I can’t go past this Tatcha one or this Jurlique essence.
Moisturise / Eye Cream
Adding hydration back into the skin is so important to replenish the skin’s moisture levels and create that plump, glowing complexion we all want. For night time, particularly during the winter, an oil will work wonders on skin. For the during the day, reach for a cream or lotion. The eye area is very delicate, and consequently requires that extra bit of love! Invest in an eye cream that is formulated especially for the eye area and works to plump and smooth fine lines.
Exfoliate
Weekly exfoliation is the key to smooth, radiant skin. Exfoliation lifts away any dead skin cells, allowing your skincare products to reach newer skin cells and work more effectively by penetrating deeper. You can use a physical exfoliant, like this one from Kate Somerville, or if you have more sensitive skin, look for a chemical exfoliant such as this one.
